Who we are
Wedprotect is a trading name of Insuremore Ltd (collectively referred to as “Wedprotect”, “we”, “us” and “our” in this Privacy Policy), which is registered in England No. 10525133. We are a data controller and we process your personal data in accordance with the relevant data protection legislation to provide you with the products and services you purchase from us. Your policy is underwritten by Newline Insurance Company Limited (Firm Reference Number 435028). Newline and Wedprotect are joint data controllers of the personal information held about you for your policy. Newline uses this information to provide cover, underwrite and administer your policy, handle claims, and for related purposes such as customer service, complaints handling and preventing crime and fraud. Wedprotect is your main point of contact for any questions about your information or to use your rights. You can read how Newline uses your information in its privacy policy at newlinegroup.com.
What information do we collect?
When you visit the Wedprotect website to purchase a policy we collect some personal information about you that you input directly into the website. This information includes personal details such as your names, address, email address, telephone number, date of birth, and other details specific to the product you are purchasing, such as your wedding dates and venues.
How we use the information we collect about you?
We collect and process theinformation about you so that we can provide you with the products and services you request. For each purpose, we have shown in brackets the legal reason(lawful basis) that allows us to use your information:
Sanctions and financial crime checks. We check the name and date of birth of each policyholder, and of anyone we make a claim payment to, against the UK government's Sanctions List. We do this when you buy your policy, while it is in force (including whenever the list changes), and before any claim or refund is paid. We must do this by law (legal obligation), and we also keep records of these checks to show our insurers and regulators that we have done them (legitimate interests). The checks are carried out by an automated system, but if it finds a possible match a member of our compliance team reviews it. No decision is made about you by the system alone. If we confirm a match, we are required to report it to the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI), and may also need to inform the National Crime Agency and your insurer. We may be unable to provide cover, pay a claim or refund a premium where the law prohibits it.
When you purchase an insurance product or service through us, your personal information may be shared with and processed by our associated companies, introducers, insurers, intermediaries, brokers and agencies for the purposes of insurance administration, including third parties providing services to them. In these circumstances, we have strict contractual terms in place, to make sure that your information remains safe and secure.
When you purchase a policy from us, we may share your name and email address with review platforms such as Feefo and Trustpilot, just for the purposes of requesting customer feedback on our behalf, so that we can continually improve our products and services. Please see Feefo’s and Trustpilot’s privacy policies for more information on how they use the reviews you submit.
If you provide information about anyone else, you confirm that they have agreed that you may give us their information for the reasons described in this privacy policy.
We may also provide your personal details to our regulators (e.g. the Financial Conduct Authority), the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, the National Crime Agency or other law enforcement bodies if we are legally required to do so, and to our insurers where a sanctions match is confirmed. We use carefully selected service providers to host our systems, under contracts that protect your information.
Please note: We will never sell or share your information with anyone else for their marketing purposes.
How we store and protect your information
All personal information collected by us is stored on secure servers and might be transferred outside the UK and European Economic Area but only where appropriate contractual obligations of adequate protection are in place. When you input information on our website the data is transferred to us securely. You will see that the website shows a green padlock and the website address begins with “https”. Our websites use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. We also have security measures in place in our offices to protect the information that you have given us.
We keep the records of your policy and of the checks described above for 7 years after your policy ends, as our insurers and regulators require. After that, your personal details are removed from those records. Where a sanctions match has been confirmed, we may need to keep the record for longer and will review it after 10 years. Our screening systems are hosted in the United Kingdom.
