Getting married or forming a civil partnership abroad?
Check that your destination legally recognises your marriage or civil partnership. Where it doesn’t, you may need to complete the legal part in the UK and hold a celebration abroad. You can insure either one, but each policy covers one ceremony and one reception within 30 days of each other.
Wedding insurance abroad →Make sure the paperwork is done in time
The policy doesn’t cover a ceremony that can’t go ahead because legal, religious or administrative requirements weren’t met, for example notice not being given in time. Check your local register office’s notice period early.
Common questions
Is there any difference in cover or price for a civil partnership?
No. It’s the same policy.
We’re converting our civil partnership to a marriage with a ceremony. Is that covered?
Yes, a ceremony celebrating your marriage is covered, as long as you meet the eligibility rules.
Can both of us be named on the policy?
Yes. Both of you are named as policyholders.
